God Seeks the Truth
The disciples argued among themselves on the way about who was the greatest among them. So He asked them, "What were you discussing among yourselves on the way?" But they remained silent. (Mark 9)
The Lord speaks to people according to what is in their hearts, not necessarily according to what they appear to be in their words or actions. The Lord Jesus often rebuked the scribes and Pharisees for the sin of hypocrisy. He said:
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness."
And He also said:
"How can you speak good things when you are evil?"
And there are many other passages like these.
The Lord wants to move us from an outward appearance of godliness to genuine godliness; from a superficial and merely outward faith to a true and practical faith. He wants to remove from us false obedience, false love, false humility, false holiness, and every form of hypocrisy.
God is the God of truth, and He seeks the truth! He is the Lord before whose light nothing can remain hidden. He says to you:
"Do you not know that I know everything and see everything? Will you not trust Me? I am able to strengthen you to face the truth and to speak honestly. Walk in integrity, and I will help you and sustain you."
Why do you care so much about pleasing people, when I am the One who created them, and all human affairs are in My hands? Is it not better for you to please the One in whose hands your very breath is?
Do not be a person with two different faces.
Are you one person at home and another in church?
At home, are there complaints, harshness, and offensive words, while in church there are prayers, thanksgiving, kindness, and a false appearance of goodness?
Do not forget that"I see what is done in secret, and appearances cannot deceive Me!"
"Do not forget that!"
