4- What is Jesus' method of preaching?
From the beginning, the Lord Jesus had the wisdom to make disciples of a group whom He would entrust with His work after He went to glory. The Bible says:"Then He went up into the mountain and called to Him those He wanted, and they came to Him. And He appointed twelve to be with Him, and to send them out to preach."(Mark 3:13, 14)
Discipleship in the life of the Lord Jesus:
1- Time: The Lord Jesus gave time to the disciples.
2- Example: He taught them through His life, miracles, and His company with them.
3- Selection: The Lord Jesus chose His disciples.
4- Prayer: He prayed for them.
5- Trust: Teach them to trust in God’s Word.
6- The Holy Spirit: Teach them to depend on the Holy Spirit.
7- Sending: Send them,"…as the Father has sent me, even so I send you."(John 20:21)
8- Cost: Teach them the price of discipleship,"If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."(Luke 9:23)
Jesus is a servant leader:
The Bible says,"Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper, and laid aside his garments, and took a towel, and girded himself with it. Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded."(John 13:3-5) This is the servant disciple, the servant leader.
"Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."(Matthew 28:18-19) In this verse, we find the Lord Jesus giving the disciples His authority, giving them the power to make disciples, and the circle in which they move. So discipleship means giving the basics of the Christian faith to the one you are discipled by.
Preaching and discipleship are inseparable,"Whom we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus."(Colossians 1:28)
