6- What are the obstacles to discipleship? And how do I overcome them?
Dustin Drutman said in his book (We Were Born to Bear Fruit): "Many are born again, but few are willing to pay the price of discipleship in following Christ."
He also added, "Believers are born, but disciples are made." There is a big difference between the two. God by the Holy Spirit through the Holy Word gives us birth again, but the discipled believer must make disciples.
Obstacles to discipleship:
1- Evangelism: Often we care about evangelism without caring about the fruits of this evangelism.
2- Physical comfort: Discipleship requires effort.
3- Sacrifice: You may need to sacrifice your most precious relationships if they are a barrier to paying the price of discipleship and following Christ.
4- Priorities: Make discipleship a priority in your life, "… seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness…"
Hinderments to discipleship for the disciple:
1- Expense.
2- False contentment.
3- The spoiled believer.
4- The star believer.
5- The believer who runs away from responsibility.
6- The disciplined son.
Finally, think carefully.
Are you willing to put Isaac on the altar?
Are you willing to break the flask of ointment at the feet of Jesus?
Are you willing to follow the example of Moses who refused to be called the son of
Pharaoh’s daughter?
Are you willing to follow the example of the Apostle Paul who said,"Whatever gain I had, I counted loss for the sake of Christ"?
