"Let no corrupting word proceed from your mouth, but what is good for edification, as the need arises, that it may impart grace to those who hear it." (Ephesians 4:29)
In this verse, the Apostle Paul reminds us of the power of the word that comes from our mouths. Words are not just sounds; they are tools for either edification or destruction. A bad word can be an unhealable wound, while a good word can be a blessing that lifts the soul and supports the weak.
God calls us to be careful about what we say, to weigh our words against the scale of love and truth, and to ask that our tongues be tools for edification, not destruction. How much we need words of comfort and encouragement in this time, in the midst of a world overflowing with despair and cruelty!
Let us ask the Lord to fill our mouths with what is good and to give us sensitivity toward others, so that we may speak what is constructive, at the right time and with the right spirit.
Pray with me.
Lord,
Make my mouth a fountain of grace, not bitterness.
Purify my lips from every destructive word.
Teach me to speak what is edifying, encouraging, and comforting.
Make me an instrument of peace and a true witness for You in my words as well as in my life.
In the name of Christ Jesus.
Amen.
