3- What is the scriptural basis for discipleship?

Scriptural examples of discipleship:

From the Old Testament:

  1- Moses and Joshua.

2- Elijah and Elisha.

3-David and Solomon.

From the New Testament:

1- The Lord Jesus and the disciples.

2- Paul the Apostle.

Let us take the example of the Apostle Paul and speak about it: The Bible says, "But we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. So, being tenderhearted toward you, we were willing to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become dear to us. For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil, when we preached to you the gospel of God, working night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. You are witnesses, and God knows how purely, righteously, and blameless we were among you who believed. As you know how we exhorted, encouraged, and testified to each one of you, as a father would his own children, that you should walk worthy of God, who called you into his kingdom and glory." (1 Thessalonians 2:7-12)

Being gentle, as a nursing mother nurtures her own children, and even ourselves, beloved to us, we labored and toiled. All these wonderful words spoken by the Apostle Paul tell us what discipleship is like. And what the relationship between the disciple and the disciple should be like.

"And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." (2 Timothy 2:2)

In this verse we find four generations:

1 - Paul.

2 - Timothy.

3 - Faithful and capable men.

4 - Others.
